A NEWPORT GP practice manager will serve 20 months in prison for stealing more than £60,000 from her employer.

Karen Macready, 46, of Caernarvon Drive, stole £64,740 while employed at Padma Surgery in Newport.

Macready, who worked as a practice manager at the surgery was responsible for salaries.

After she resigned from her position in January 2012, the head of practice at the surgery, Jay Das Mohapatra, realised that the business account was overdrawn by £35,000.

It was discovered that Macready had been paying herself a higher salary than she was entitled.

Macready had worked at the surgery for 16 years.

After the accounts were examined, it was found that between March 2010 and December 2011, Macready stole more than £60,000.

She pleaded guilty to theft at Cardiff Crown Court on June 4.
