NEWPORT Gwent Dragons lit up the Royal Gwent Hospital this week, with a special visit to the Children’s Ward to meet with young patients and their families, writes Adam Hale.

A group of 15 first-team players, including skipper Lee Byrne, Taulupe Faletau, Lewis Evans, Brok Harris, Ian Gough, Richie Reese and Hallam Amos helped spread festive cheer by handing out some early Christmas presents to youngsters in the ward.

They then spent the afternoon chatting to children and their families and posing for photographs.

British and Irish Lion Faletau said: “These visits are an important part of our work and our season. We all know how lucky we are at this time of year and wanted to do something as a squad for the local community.

"The nurses, doctors and all of the staff here do amazing work and we very much appreciate the opportunity to come in and meet the young patients.”

The Dragons’ next two matches come as a double-header against Cardiff Blues, with a Boxing-Day clash at Cardiff Arms Park before a New-Years Day return at Rodney Parade.
