THERE are plenty of events to keep the family entertained in Gwent this bank holiday weekend.

Saturday

1 Torfaen dance school Street-Fit will mark International Dance Day with a performance at Cwmbran Shopping’s Gwent Square between 2pm and 4pm.

2 Llantarnam Grange Arts Centre hosts a celebration to mark its 50th anniversary. Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway holds a mixed traction weekend that runs between 11am and 5pm until Monday. There will be a mix of steam trains and modern diesel equivalents.

4 The fourth charity Kamfest rock festival takes place at Nevill Hall Hospital’s Social Club in Abergavenny from 6.30pm.

Sunday

5 Music on the Platform at the Old Station, Tintern between 2pm and 4pm with singer Grace Harry.

6 The Llantillio Crossenny Music Festival launches at St Teilo’s Church, Llantilio Crosenny with a free theatre scenery painting and lighting workshop at Treadam Barn between 2pm and 5pm.

7 Cwmcarn Forest Visitor Centre- International Dawn Chorus Walk. One hour stroll around the valley listening to the bird song at 5.30am. Suitable for ages 6 plus. Booking essential. Adults £6 Children £3.

8 Cwmbran Craft Fayre at Our Lady of the Angels Hall, Victoria Street, Cwmbran between 1pm and 4pm. In aid of Glen Llwyd Scout Group. Entry free.

9 Three Castles history tour of White Castle, Skenfrith Castle and Grosmont Castle, near Abergavenny at 10am. The Cadw tour lasts three hours and own transport needed.

10 Newport County AFC Family Fun Day at Rodney Parade from 9am. Inflatable castles, go-kart parties, rodeo bull, assault course, Energize Radio plus live music.

Sunday and Monday

11 May Day celebrations at Tredegar House in Newport between 11am and 2pm. Free entry but normal admission charges apply for the venue.

12 Fortress Wales at Caldicot Castle. The multi-period re-enactment event will cover 1,000 years of history between 10am and 5pm. Entry £10 adults, £5 child or £30 for a family.

13 Visitors can meet historical characters and try family activities such as archery at Caerphilly Castle between 10.30am and 4pm. Entry adults £6 or family £16.20.

Bank Holiday Monday

14 Chepstow Town football tournament for 500 children takes place at Chepstow Town FC, Newport Road in Chepstow to raise funds for the club between 9am and 3pm.

15 The annual Devauden Races kick off at 9.30am from the Village Green at the Hood Memorial Hall.

16 Abergavenny Toy and Train Fair returns to Abergavenny Market Hall and Cross Street between 10am and 4pm. Family entry costs £1.

17 A charity fundraising event takes place at Goytre Wharf’s Waterfront Café. Craft stalls as well as animals from Cwmbran animal sanctuary All Creatures Great and Small from 12.30pm.

18 The fifth Great Abergavenny Bake Off at Abergavenny Cricket Club, Avenue Road takes place between 2pm and 5pm. The charity event features a cake baking competition, afternoon tea, bouncy castle, cake decorating workshops.

19 Family fun day at Whiteheads Sports Ground, Bassaleg between noon and 4pm. Craft stalls, interactive sports, ice creams and cakes.

20 May Fayre in Magor Square, Magor between 1pm and 5pm. Entertainment, craft stalls, a hog roast, beer tent games and cakes. Organised by the Magor Churchmen.
