NEWPORT County manager Justin Edinburgh has added Cardiff City defender Adedeji Oshilaja to his January wish-list.

Oshilaja, 20, has made ten appearances for the Exiles since joining from County’s capital rivals at the start of November on a month-to-month loan.

The London-born defender has really caught the eye in amber with Newport unbeaten in 80% of games he’s featured in and having kept six clean sheets.

Boss Edinburgh wants to keep the youngster until the end of the season and has opened talks with the Bluebirds over reaching an agreement.

It is hoped Oshilaja can be one of two loan deals struck when the transfer window re-opens in January with the Exiles also keen to keep midfielder Tom Naylor.

Edinburgh has already begun talking with parent club Derby County and is hopeful of a double deal.

“We would love to keep Deji here if we can, he has done an excellent job for us since coming here and is enjoying himself,” Edinburgh told the Argus.

“We will talk with Cardiff like we are talking with Derby County about Tom Naylor who I have already explained we would love to keep on beyond January.

“Ultimately, at the moment all we can do is talk to the clubs because the players don’t belong to us. But we can offer them a first team opportunity.”

Edinburgh has extended the agreement with former Cheltenham Town defender Billy Jones until January.

He signed as a free agent and is on a rolling contract on a month-by-month basis.

“We’ve agreed another month with Billy and he’ll be looking to get more opportunities,” Edinburgh said.

“It’s been difficult in the past couple of weeks for him because Andy Sandell has come back quicker than was expected, but we know Billy is a very good player.”

However, the futures of striker George Barker and midfielder Ryan Burge are looking less likely to be on Parade.

Striker Barker, on loan from Championship outfit Brighton until January, has made just two brief sub appearances for the Exiles and Edinburgh believes he’s likely to want more first team exposure.

“We will have to wait and see with George, unless we can find him more game time he might feel he’s better off not staying, it’s something we’ll address in January,” Edinburgh explained.

Edinburgh insists any other plans for the transfer window will largely depend on his injured players.

It is hoped that County will be reinforced throughout the spine of the side with Byron Anthony, Max Porter and last season’s top scorer Aaron O’Connor all on the comeback trail from long-term problems.

If the players return without setback then it is understood Edinburgh is likely to do little in a month that sees most clubs frenetically searching for reinforcements.
