HAS the righteous indignation about Saturday's postponement with Wimbledon subsided?

I'm speaking strictly tongue in cheek, because I do appreciate that as a fan, nothing is worse than being denied that much needed football fix.

It does amuse how some people do tend to take things so personally, holding the club accountable for not personally apologising to each of the 3000 people left disappointed and worse still, possibly forced to do some Christmas shopping.

But it's naive to not be concerned about the potential for more postponements this season.

The drainage work at Rodney Parade - as revealed by the Argus back in July - is only half finished and we are going to remain in the lap of the Gods when it comes to the potential for flooding.

However, there is further discontent at the Parade, this time from Newport RFC fans who are disgruntled that their Swalec Cup game with Bonymaen on January 4 looks likely to be moved to Newbridge due to County playing a League Two fixture against Northampton Town.

The Exiles, of course, have primacy of tenancy in regard to fixtures, a Football League requirement and a key agreement for County to begin residency at Rodney Parade.

It's an understandable grievance for Newport RFC fans at their home ground, but we must move away from this notion of County being unwelcome tenants.

The match day experience at County is infinitely better than it was at Spytty Park and non-football-hating rugby fans should try to experience that for themselves and might just be pleasantly surprised.

There are fiscal benefits to the unique agreement that sees the three key teams in one city all sharing a facility and given time, there will be clear and identifiable improvements at Rodney Parade as a result, not least a completed pitch with top drainage.

In the meantime, we all have to just be a little bit patient, a little bit understanding of one another and all make the best of the situation.

Because while it might not be perfect, it's the best way to give Newport RFC, Newport Gwent Dragons and Newport County AFC the best possible chance to reach new heights.
