Selection headache for Exiles boss at Burton

NEWPORT County AFC boss Justin Edinburgh is unsure as to whether to rotate his squad ahead of Sunday’s tricky trip to Burton, writes Michael Pearlman.

The Exiles boss had the rare luxury of keeping a settled starting XI on Boxing Day at Adams Park, keeping faith in the side that won at Fratton Park.

However, with a further two games to come over the festive period at home to Oxford United on New Year's Day and Northampton Town on Saturday, January 4, Edinburgh admits he’s in a quandary.

“It’s a difficult one, I always say I am loathe to change it because as a previous player myself you’d never want to miss a game after contributing to back-to-back victories,” he said.

“But obviously my job, what I’m paid to do, is to assess it.

"We need to check on a few bumps and bruises and also what people have in their legs. We are training on Saturday and it’ll give us a better idea.”

Edinburgh was also pleased with the success of his new 3-4-3 formation in the 1-0 victory at Wycombe, which came courtesy of Mike Flynn's first half strike.

“We made a bit of a statement with the intent we showed, we rocked Wycombe a bit and put them on the back foot and were worthy of our lead,” he said.

“We are very confident right now and have players who can adapt; we have pace in the team and can stretch sides and that works home or away.”
