County confident Northampton game will go ahead

South Wales Argus: HARD WORK: Rodney Parade ground staff John Raymond and Nick Delahay with a Blotter machine this afternoon HARD WORK: Rodney Parade ground staff John Raymond and Nick Delahay with a Blotter machine this afternoon

NEWPORT County AFC are confident that tomorrow’s League Two clash with basement boys Northampton Town will go ahead as planned.

The Exiles have suffered two postponements in the last fortnight due to a waterlogged pitch at Rodney Parade but believe they have a chance of beating the weather this time.

The home clashes with AFC Wimbledon on December 21 and Oxford United on New Year’s Day were both called off by the match referee on the day.

And tomorrow’s official will inspect the pitch on arrival in the morning before Northampton travel.

“The referee will have a look at it first thing before Northampton set off,” said a club spokesman.

“The Football League have advised us that is what we should do but we are hopeful that the match will go ahead.”

The FA Cup matches at Charlton Athletic and Crawley Town and the League Two fixture between Portsmouth and Accrington Stanley have all been postponed due to waterlogged pitches.

Newport RFC have also seen tomorrow’s Swalec Cup tie against Bonymaen, which was moved to Newbridge to accommodate County’s match, postponed.

But ground staff at Rodney Parade have been working hard to get the Northampton game on.

The club have hired the services of Glamorgan CCC’s Keith Exton, who did a ‘verti-drain’ of the surface on New Year’s Day, digging into the pitch with a nine inch deep fork to help the current drainage system.

County have also used water hogs from the Celtic Manor and have now taken another step by hiring a ‘Blotter’ machine, designed to deal directly with the problem of standing water on the pitch.

The AFC Wimbledon game has been rearranged for Tuesday, February 11, and the club announced today that the home match with Oxford will now be played on Tuesday, February 18. Both games will kick-off at 7.45pm.

I'm afraid you have to use the new revamped County website. It is called County player and you will have to pay a fee to listen to Tim's commentary from now on. I hasten to add that I will not be doing so as I think it is a rip off for loyal fans to have to dip into their pockets yet again just listen to what was originally a free service. If it was a premiership club then perhaps I would understand it but this is downright mean in my view. Bye Tim it was nice while it lasted. Over to BBC Wales and Sky Sports News for me from now on. You can still view the highlights on Youtube usually the following day.

I think its a great alternative to take up especially if you can't make the games, home or away, on a regular basis. Looks like a decent deal to me!!!

You can only join " exile player " and listen to Tim,s commentary if your computer lets you download Abobe Flash Player. If you have an IPad then you cannot download Adobe thus no commentary. Another well thought out **** up.

Well thanks for the info lads I will miss Big Tim Thraves I'm not a computer wizz kid. Maybe the guy next door can help. But how much is this rip off going to cost? If its a couple of quid I don't mind. I remember sending David Hando £75 to pay for one weeks interest on their loan some time ago and a further £25 for a brick for some wall at spytty park. I'm left wondering where Newport County are going. I have looked forward to listening to newport city radio every saturday but now my bubble has burst. So dissappointed.

i have feeling though that despite the optimism the game tomorrow will be called off

Hi Larneman , it will cost you £4.49 a month or £38 for a year, if you have a laptop or a desktop then you will need to download Adobe Flash Player then you will be ok. But if you have an IPad you will not be able to get it because iPad does not support Adobe, best of luck.
