County 0 Cheltenham 1

NEWPORT County AFC came down to earth with a bump against the Robins as Cheltenham Town earned a 1-0 win at Rodney Parade.

A scrappy goal from Ashley Vincent after 23 minutes was enough to give the visitors the three points on a desperately disappointing afternoon for the Exiles.

Justin Edinburgh's men piled on the pressure after the break but couldn't find a way through the visitors' defence.

They are now seven points off the play-offs with three games in hand ahead of Tuesday night's rearranged home clash with AFC Wimbledon.

Extremely poor performance. Some players should hang their heads in shame. Disgraceful. They did the badge a great injustice today. We'll have 1000 less fans turning up on Tuesday because of that inept performance. Have a clear out JE, be ruthless and sack the hangers on. They don't deserve to play in County colours again.

So, so disappointing after Tuesdays performance ! Why did he drop Pipe?
For me Hughes does not cut it at this level.
We would not have score if we played for another 90 minutes !!!!!

Not play off form i'm afraid !

I could ask Tommy Tynan if he could help out against Wimbledon on Tuesday if you like. Maybe someone could have a word with John Aldridge too ... he might fancy a game.

Can't understand why Ryan Jackson can't get a game.He could have given us much more width on the right and given Robbie Wilmot more freedom.

The 5,3,2, formation didn't work in the first half. The midfield was outnumbered and sank back and the strikers couldn't keep contact with the mid-field. It was better in the 2nd half when County reduced the number of defenders and played further up field with greater numbers.Maybe time to return to 4,4,2. The Cheltenham manager watched County play Oxford, knew what to expect and devised a successful plan to counteract it. He even signalled his goal-keeper to cover the side where Burge had scored against Oxford when Burge took a free-kick.

You said we would not have scored if we had played another 90 mins, have to disagree with you there we could have played all night and that ball would have not gone in their net.

So Jekyll and hyde. How many times have I said that. A fine weather team. If there is a cloud in the sky they don't want to play. Dr martins league team. They all have been on Argus TALKING a good game but according to Tim Thraves Byron Anthoney was the only one who turned up. I had to spend £400 on a new pc to listen to that.
Feel so sorry for the fans who paid good money only to suffer having to watch a team that did'nt come up to scratch.. Come on JE get them sorted.

All above comments 100% correct. We were hopeless. Tactics never varied. Howe was hopeless, Chapman had no heart, wrong choice at the back (why no Pipe or Jackson and why switch Wilmott to the right when he has been brilliant on the left all season). Cheltenham were poor but we were poorer. Until we get O'Connor back in team we will score few goals. Even against Oxford we had to rely on a deflected goal, a gift and a brilliant free kick that players score once in a blue moon. Play-offs still a possibility but only if we play our best team and they consistently play at their best.

it was a disappointing performance.

alot of county supporters seem to agree.

again not much movement in the top eight of the league. but i v always said scoring has been and will be a problem.JOLLEY cannot even get on the bench , what is the problem , still suffering from his injury?

agree with why PIPE was dropped and RYAN JACKSON is not playing?

3 more home game advantage to come , ha ha FORTRESS NEWPORT, a few more performances like that , and it will CARE HOME newport .

buck up your ideas for tuesday lads..

Very true; Ryan Jackson sank in oblivion. Ryan formed such a good duo with Oshilaja before the latter moved back to his former team.

But JE must have his good reasons. Maybe he is still in debt with the established players who last season secured promotion from Conference.
