IT'S been a really encouraging start to the NatWest T20 Blast for Glamorgan – but we know that we have to keep the pedal to the floor to make the quarter-finals.

We are third in the South Group ahead of tonight's game with Kent, which is the first of three successive games at the Swalec Stadium with Surrey heading to Cardiff a week today and Hampshire's visit the following Wednesday.

If we can win at least two of them then we will be in great shape to make the quarters but last year, when we made a great start to the group stages before tailing off, showed that we have to stay focussed.

There is no doubt that we have the talent in our side to be serious contenders and we have shown our quality with wins against Hampshire, Sussex and Somerset – three traditionally strong T20 sides.

The team song was sung loud and proud at Taunton last Friday after a cracking seven-run win.

We have come up short so often at Somerset in recent years that it was great to finally enjoy a success and it was a real team effort with captain Jim Allenby leading the way with a brilliant unbeaten 96.

He deserved to join Ian Thomas as a Glamorgan T20 centurion because it was a superb knock and showed the importance of someone taking responsibility and batting long.

That win was followed by a disappointing bowling performance at Bristol before the rain came to ensure we shared the spoils with Gloucestershire.

We weren't at our best with the ball as they managed 207-3 but we've got that performance out of the way, took a point from the game and can learn the lessons from it.

The South Group is so strong that we cannot afford too many bad days at the office if we are to make the quarters, and preferably earn a home knockout game.

It's going to be a busy month or so with County Championship games against Kent, Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Surrey in among the T20 fixtures.

Things haven't gone to plan since our win at the Oval in April but we are still in the hunt for promotion from Division Two. We sit fifth even though we haven't been at our best and we have the ability to go on a run.

There is lots to play for in all forms of the game for us and this hectic spell will go a long way towards ensuring we are in the mix for silverware.
