REAL Madrid and Wales star Gareth Bale is delighted his home city of Cardiff will host the UEFA Super Cup on August 12.

Champions League winners Madrid play Europa League winners Sevilla at the Cardiff City Stadium and fans have until Friday to register for the chance to buy tickets.

And Bale is relishing the chance to once again shine in Cardiff, scene of some of his most memorable goals for Wales.

“I am really looking forward to the Super Cup at the Cardiff City Stadium,” said the former Spurs ace.

“I will be playing in my home city. It will be a fantastic occasion. I will be playing in front of all my family and friends.

“Cardiff and Wales has changed dramatically over the past few years,” he added.

“As a city Cardiff has staged several high profile and successful sporting events. And the Super Cup between Real Madrid and Sevilla will again show case the Welsh capital.”

The UEFA Super Cup, Champions League and Europa League trophies will be in Wales from August 1 to August 11 in the build-up to the final the following day.

The UEFA trophy ‘journey through Wales’ tour will combine iconic, historic landmarks coupled with a link to all the UEFA club competitions past and present.

The tour will begin at Dragon Park in Newport, then head to Wrexham – the birthplace of the FAW in 1876 – then on to Snowdonia, Bangor, Aberystwyth and Llanelli before finishing its journey in Cardiff.

At each location an inflatable dome will be set up to showcase the trophies, and the public will be able to have their photo taken next to the trophies.

Jonathan Ford, Chief Executive of the FAW said: “This is the first time that all three UEFA trophies will have been shown in Wales and we want to use the tour as an opportunity to promote grassroots football right across Wales.

“The timing is also perfect in terms of building excitement ahead of Cardiff City Stadium hosting Real Madrid and FC Sevilla on August 12, featuring of course Gareth Bale.”

Members of the public who wish to register for tickets for the UEFA Super Cup can do so via UEFA.com but applications will close at 11am on Friday.
