Gwent doctor fraud case jury discharged

THE jury in the trial of a Gwent doctor charged with fraud was discharged yesterday as they were unable to reach a verdict.

Lucy Dawson, 45, of The Narth, Monmouth, has been standing trial this week charged with two counts of fraud by failing to disclose information.

This relates to two periods of sick leave between October 13 and 23, 2009, and November 9, 2009, to May 14, 2010.

Dawson denies the charges.

Judge David Wynn Morgan discharged the jury after they said they were unable to agree on a verdict.

Prosecution barrister Carl Harrison asked for a retrial and a hearing is due today, when a new trial date is set to be fixed.
