Abergavenny Specsavers appeal a huge success

A LOCAL opticians has collected hundreds of pairs of old and unwanted glasses, which will be used to help people with poor eyesight in the developing world.

Specsavers on Frogmore Street in Abergavenny has collected more than 600 pairs of old glasses since the turn of the year for the recycling scheme, which is run by Vision Aid Overseas.

The glasses will now be refurbished and recycled for use by people who do not have access to proper, affordable eyecare.

Director of Specsavers Abergavenny, Andrew Sutton, said: “We’re delighted to have collected so many pairs of glasses in less than a year and all of the team here would like to thank everyone in the community who has donated so kindly.

‘It is thanks to these efforts that we can continue to help optical experts examine the eyes of people in the developing world and to train people in those countries in eye care skills.”

The store will continue to collect people’s unwanted spectacles, so if you have a pair you no longer need then call into the store to drop them off.

Vision Aid Overseas is a charity which aims to transform access to eyecare services for people in developing countries.
