A chocolate bar produced by Duffryn High School pupils proved such a runaway success that their 500 stock of the delicious chocolates were snapped by eager customers in just four days.

The students, who set up a business as part of the Young Enterprise scheme, have now had to reorder and stock up to take full advantage of the busy Christmas period.

The bar has been such a success in the run up to Christmas the student entrepreneurs say they will now sell the bar throughout the year

Jay Waugh, managing director of the Duffryn Young Enterprise business Blesio, said: “At the start of Young Enterprise we all got together and decided to create a product suitable for Christmas that all ages could enjoy. We decided on chocolate as it is always enjoyed this time of the year.”

Jay said: “We branded and marketed the company 'Blesio' and found contacts to manufacture our chocolate bars. We bought 500 bars to sell and managed to sell out in just four days. We’re now getting more stock as quickly as we can. As a result of this success we are now looking to expand and sell the chocolate throughout the year.”'

Former Duffryn High School student Chris Taylor, a director at Newport financial business Kymin, who is on the board of Newport and Monmouthshire Young Enterprise, was keen to see his former school take part in the programme.

Chris said: “I am extremely proud of the progress that the students from Duffryn High School have made since signing up to the Young Enterprise company programme earlier this year.

“I truly believe that they have all gained a good amount experience of what is actually involved with running a business. They are operating extremely well as a team and their Welsh chocolate bars are proving to be a great success with sales exceeding initial expectations.

“I look forward to watching their continued success and ensuring that they have the best possible chances of winning the Welsh finals in 2014.”

Duffryn High School head teacher Jon Wilson said: “I am extremely proud of the pupils and what they have already achieved with the Young Enterprise programme. They have gone from a concept to actually selling their product in just eight short weeks. I wish them luck with the Young Enterprise competition.”
