There was plenty going on at the Celtic Manor Resort this weekend with The Celebrity Cup, and I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to play The Twenty Ten Course, which was, of course, built to stage The 2010 Ryder Cup.

I was at there with friends for a party on Saturday night and managed to spot swimmer Mark Foster and rugby star Mike Tindall with his royal wife Zara and their daughter. These events are great for Welsh tourism, but it is terrific that, at the heart of the tournament is the opportunity to raise some money for well deserving causes.

It was the fourth time I’ve played The Twenty Ten and driving around on my buggy, I realised, not for the first time, what a great venue it is.

In September it will be visited by world leaders for the NATO summit and it really is an impressive venue to hold such an important meeting for the world’s leaders. It is great for Newport to become a player on the world stage and the onus is now on the business community and politicians to really maximise on the benefits the summit presents for the good of the economy of Wales.

It was one of the worst rounds I’ve ever played – unfortunately, I didn’t put in a star performance, but I still had a fantastic day in really super company. I only wish my game had been as impressive as the scenery and the course – but there’s always next time.
