Six members of the same Gwent accountancy firm scaled the three highest peaks in Britain to raise thousands for a children’s cancer care charity in Wales.

The team of mountain hikers from Newport-based accountancy and financial services specialists Kilsby & Williams and Kilsby Williams & Gould succeeded in climbing Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike – the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales – in just over 24 hours.

Their mountain marathon took the climbers from their office base in Newport to the Scottish highlands, the mountains of the Lake District and, finally, the Snowdonia National Park in Wales.

The weekend challenge, which included a total of 9,800ft in ascents, around 1,200 miles on the road and 27 miles on foot, saw the Kilsby & Williams ‘Happy Feet’ team smash their initial fundraising target of £2,000, and have so far collected a total of £5,086.79 in aid of the LATCH Welsh Children’s Cancer Charity.

Amanda Williams, Jonathan Harrhy, Suzanne Lee, Dee Pattemore, Alison Hazledine and Andy Gait all work at the Kilsby & Williams offices on the Celtic Springs Business Park at Newport. They were supported by the driving team of colleagues Jean Downing and Anne Hordley.

Kilsby Williams & Gould managing director Andy Gait said: “A number of us have young children and are more than grateful that they are all healthy. We thought it would be appropriate for us to raise money for a charity that treats and cares for children who are not so fortunate.

“We left the office on a Friday afternoon and arrived back tired, but happy, in the early hours of the following Monday. It was an amazing adventure and we all completed every step, with one of us limping into the car park at the bottom of the final climb of Snowdon in her socks!”

Kilsby & Williams business services manager Suzanne Lee said: “It’s true that several times over the weekend each one of us questioned why we were doing it, but we were driven on to succeed and finish the course thanks to the incredibly generous donations and messages of support we received throughout from colleagues, family and friends.”

Kilsby & Williams has a staff of 40.
