Cwmbran’s Parkway Hotel and Spa is getting 10 luxury bedrooms and suites as part of a £1.5m investment by it’s owners de Savary Hotels.

Work has already started on the new rooms, which will include eight executive rooms and two suites, which will bring the hotel’s number of rooms to 80.

Managing director of de Savary Hotels Ian Solkin said: “The new rooms will help us develop our markets into new areas and add some real luxury bedrooms to the Parkway.”

De Savary bought the hotel in November 2012 and since then has undertaken a refurbishment of the building and grounds.

Mr Solkin said: “We are very excited about the way the area locally is developing from the new shopping area in Newport to the proposed convention centre at the Celtic Manor Resort. All of this has given us the confidence to go ahead with these new rooms.”

The development is being undertaken by Newport firm Davlan Construction and will create 12 new jobs at the hotel once they are complete.

Mr Solkin said: “We have been very pleased since the day we bought the Parkway. It has been a very good news story for us.”

The Parkway, which is currently a Best Western hotel, has been rebranded as The Parkway Hotel and Spa and will be leaving Best Western at the beginning of next year.

Mr Solkin said: “We have decided to leave Best Western because we feel the hotel has an extremely strong brand in the area and we want to market the hotel as a family-run independent hotel.”

The Parkway is run on a day-to-day basis by Kerry Jennings, the general manager.
