Members of staff from one of South Wales’ leading law firms will be taking part in the London Marathon to raise money for Bobath Therapy Centre Wales.

Three members of staff from HardingEvans will take part in the event on April 26 with the hope of raising at least £4,000.

Joy Baker, Lauren Watkins and Martin Jones are currently training hard for the event, which will see them run more than 26 miles.

Joy Baker, who works in the firm’s medical negligence department, said: “I am very excited to be taking part in the London Marathon. I have been running for a few years now and have completed various half marathon events but the thought of going twice the distance is terrifying.

“I am really fortunate to have a group of colleagues who I am able to train with during this period as they motivate me to increase my pace. I am looking forward to challenging myself while raising money for a good cause at the same time.”

Joy has already raised more than £1,400 and is looking to raise a further £600 in the run up to the event.

Bobath Wales is a specialist treatment centre providing individually tailored therapy to children, from birth to 18, who have cerebral palsy and other allied neurological conditions. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for children so that they are healthy and active, and can participate in everyday life to the best of their ability.

HardingEvans first chose Bobath Wales as its charity of the year in 2013 and has continued to raise money for them since.

Lauren, who works as an associate in the firm’s clinical negligence department, said: “Taking part in events such as the London Marathon is very much in line with HardingEvans’ policy of supporting a local charity each year, as well as raising money and awareness for fantastic causes such as Bobath.

“We have chosen Bobath as our charity of the year again to support the amazing work they do for children with cerebral palsy, the benefits of which I have been able to see first-hand in my role at the firm.

“Not only have we been able to raise fantastic sums of money, but have also noticed an improvement in staff motivation with the various team activities associated with fundraising.”

Martin, who works in the firms accounts department, said: “I decided to take up running in 2012 after a friend sadly passed away, I chose to run for the BHF of which he was a great supporter. I have helped to raise more than £2,000 in the process.

“This will be my first marathon which is quite daunting but I have received a great deal of support, especially from HardingEvans.”

Gail Griffiths, of Bobath Wales, said: “We are very grateful to HardingEvans for their ongoing support.

“We know that the team are training hard and we are confident that they will do very well in April. Completing a marathon is no easy task, which just goes to show their dedication to the cause.”

HardingEvans is one of South Wales’ most progressive law firms, offering a full range of specialist legal services to businesses and individuals across the region.
