Sports psychologist Andy McCann gave an uplisting and enjoyable talk when he was the guest speaker at the recent City of Newport Business Club lunch event.

Mr McCann talked about his coaching and performance techniques at the event held at the Holiday Inn, Newport.

Highlighting the synergy between sports and business, his pragmatic approach to high performance leadership was cleverly constructed and professionally delivered. He explained how important it is to get people to see challenges and not threats and also described his ‘Podium Philosophy’ which develops a sense of team-ship.

His enthusiastic delivery enlightened the guests on how top sports people, such as Welsh Rugby internationals Sam Warburton and Lee Halfpenny have benefited from his methods by unlocking their true potential to be the best they can be.

The club’s chairman Janine Dance said: “It was an enormous privilege to listen to Andy and to hear how sports psychology translates into the business world. It was a great talk with some really useful insights."

The club's next event will be held on Thursday May 14 with TV quiz favourite CJ De Mooi, of BBC Eggheads, hosting a quiz night to round off its 2014-15 season.

The event will be £25 per person. For more information about the business club visit: www.newportbusinessclub.co.uk.
