So the Conservatives are in, with a majority victory.

Lots of the positive speak has been in the form of they are going to help businesses, which the UK desperately needs.

This may see people taking the plunge with their business ideas and starting up their own business.

This, of course, can be a daunting prospect, though to help you get started I have included a 10 point checklist below to help:

1. Determine viability – do you have a product or service that will sell? Research is key.

2. Get your finances right – do you need certain levels to live off? Start up’s can take time to get started.

3. Business plan – this may be needed for banks and your own targets. It also helps keeping budgets in line.

4. Get the legal structure right – do you want to trade as a sole trader, partnership, limited company, LLP?

5. Marketing – in a world where the market place can be saturated, how are you different?

6. Location – depending on the business, this can be vital. Needs to be weighed up with rent and rates vs footfall.

7. Team – a business is only as good as it’s team, don’t hire the first candidate you see

8. Accounting – how are your records going to be kept? Also, a good accountant is vital.

9. Insurance – things can go wrong, protect the business you want to succeed

10. Get support – your family needs to be behind you, any grants available, banks?
