The technology network for Wales, ESTnet, has appointed two new board members to reflect the transforming nature of the sector.

Wynne Crompton and Rob Rolley have been appointed and bring with them expertise in the software, electronics and defence sectors.

Rob Rolley leads the EDGE Innovation function at General Dynamics UK in Oakdale.

His team is responsible for the delivery of new technologies into the business to enable the delivery of new capabilities as well as keeping the firm at the forefront of the defence sector.

As one of the Welsh Government’s Anchor Companies Rob and General Dynamics UK will bring experience of working globally to the ESTnet board as well as support for SME and start-up members on how to engage and network with larger organisations to ultimately win business.

Wynne Crompton is commercial director and co-founder of bespoke software house, Accelero Digital. Having moved from teaching into the electronics and software industries in 2000, Wynne brings with him a wealth of experience across both sectors and is representative of the growing number of software development businesses throughout Wales.

Managing director of the ESTnet Avril Lewis said: “Rob and Wynne represent the diverse nature of the ESTnet’s membership base and we have made a conscious effort in recent years to ensure our board reflects and represents the changing nature of the industry.

“The volume of entries into our Sir Michael Moritz start-up category at this year’s ESTnet Awards demonstrates that we are seeing exponential growth of new home-grown tech businesses in Wales that are looking for collaboration opportunities to develop their technology. Our membership is made up of enabling technology businesses and at the moment it is a very exciting time for the sector in Wales as it continues to grow and diversify.

“The technologies developed here are pervasive and underpin all aspects of today’s world.”

The ESTnet board is made up of some of the industry’s most prominent figures, who have a wealth of experience in innovation, technology, globalisation and business, spanning the niche to the multinational. Representatives include: SPTS, IQE plc, Method4, Sony UK Technology Centre, KSR Electronic Systems Ltd, Axiom Manufacturing Services, Eysys, Accelero Digital and General Dynamics UK.

Created in 2011, the ESTnet has established itself as a high value network, providing a voice of the industry for the industry. It promotes organisations in Wales within the electronics and software technologies industry that design, develop, manufacture and integrate products and services that are vital to economic success.
