A young apprentice from Chepstow has been named runner-up for this year’s regional Outstanding Apprentice of the Year award.

Lloyd Cox, aged 21, took silver after impressing judges at the EEF/Aldermore Future Manufacturing Awards.

The Rolls-Royce apprentice was up against five other apprentices shortlisted from across the region, but was able to win judges over with his commitment, ambition and drive to pursue a career in manufacturing.

Judges said that they had been overwhelmed by the calibre of apprentices nominated for this year’s award and that the title had been hotly contested.

Lloyd Cox, Rolls-Royce apprentice, said: “I’m so pleased to have got this far. It’s a great feeling to be recognised in this way for doing something I genuinely enjoy and that is setting me up for life. I’m only at the very start of my career in engineering and already it is proving to be both rewarding and challenging in equal measure. I enjoy every aspect of working for Rolls-Royce and look forward to seeing what my future within the company holds.

“I hope my success encourages other apprentices to enter these awards, and other young people to seriously consider becoming an apprentice too. I am sure for many others, like myself, it is the best way to kick-start your career.”
