Two Gwent-based businesses have been recognised for their efforts towards green energy at the recent South Wales Business Growth Awards organised by Zokit and TheBestOf.

UniGreen Scheme, based in Cwmbran, won the Green Business award, which recognises the commitment made to developing and sustaining environmentally friendly business practices.

Director Michael McLeod said: “Winning the award was very special, especially as we’re a very new business. The recognition is hugely encouraging and we hope to use this award to further our message of green and efficient business practice to all of our clients and stakeholders.”

Chepstow-based Gwent Energy was highly commended in the category, and also took an Outstanding Contribution award on the evening. Director Phil Powell said: “We have many projects that will look to use green energy on a large scale, so this recognition helps affirm our credibility as we raise funds to complete sustainable energy developments.”

The awards were sponsored by compliance consultancy Penarth Management.

Director Jodie Read said: “It’s impressive to see two young Gwent businesses making strides in what is a developing industry. The commitment to sustainability is remarkable, and we were honoured to sponsor such an important award and I am sure this will help both businesses grow at an even more impressive rate.”

Penarth Management was established in 1975 and serves to make businesses better, greener and safer by implementing and sustaining quality, environmental and health and safety standards.
