Stephen Jones, a former director of Chepstow Racecourse, is re-joining the business as an ambassador.

Stephen, who is married to opera singer Rebecca Evans and lives in Penarth, has held a long interest in horse racing. He joined the Board of Chepstow Racecourse in 1989 (later becoming Northern Racing PLC) until its sale to the Reuben Brothers in 2007.

During much of that period he represented Northern Racing on the Racecourse Association’s Media Rights Advisory Group and its Legal Group. He has jointly owned two jump racehorses and is a life member of all racecourses owned by the Arena Racing Company (formerly Northern Racing).

Chepstow Racecourse recently announced plans for a multi-million pound development to improve facilities for racegoers (see page 1) and Stephen will help raise the profile of the venue across South Wales.

Stephen, 55, spent 30 years in stockbroking, fund management and investment banking, most recently with Rothschild. He was a Director of Rothschild (Wales) for 15 years before leaving as full time executive in 2003 to pursue his private interests.

In the community, he was a founding director of the charity Crimestoppers Wales and is still involved with numerous charities. He is currently chairman of School Software Solutions, a consultant for JM Finn & Co and a trustee of the Bryn Terfel Foundation.

Mr Jones said: "I am delighted to be renewing my association with the racecourse, one the key sporting attractions in Wales. There are exciting times ahead for the business and I’m looking forward to helping spread the good news.”

Phil Bell, executive director at Chepstow Racecourse, said: "Stephen will be bring a wealth of experience, knowledge and contacts to the racecourse and we are excited that he has accepted our offer to become an ambassador.”
