Fabrication firm, Dudley’s Aluminium, has secured a new education sector contract to support the construction of John Frost School, in Newport.

The contract is worth more than £750,000 and is with BAM Construction to install the secondary school’s aluminium façade.

Work is due to begin in the spring.

Engineers from Dudley’s Aluminium, which previously worked on Friars Walk in Newport, will install essential aluminium façade and glazing fixtures at the site, including custom-made curtain walling, windows and doors.

The contract is part of a multi-million-pound transformation at John Frost School, with a new Welsh medium secondary school being developed on part of the existing site.

The upper and middle blocks of the existing school will be retained, with portable buildings currently housing four learning zones and linking corridors to be demolished. These will be replaced by a three-storey building sited between the upper and middle blocks.

Dudley’s managing director Colin Shorney said: “We have an excellent reputation in South Wales for our education sector work and we are very happy to be involved with another important project. Our team is looking forward to starting work at the site and we are confident that the new school development will help to create a long-lasting legacy for the institution.”

Due to open before September 2017, the development of John Frost School will eventually provide 900 places for pupils from Newport and South Monmouthshire.

Dudley’s Aluminium has completed a number of important education sector contracts in South Wales in the last 36 months. The company completed a £2.2m contract to support the construction of Swansea University’s new Bay Campus, as well as a £1.2m contact to help develop the CUBRIC research centre, in Cardiff.

Dudley Aluminium has been recognised with several industry-related accreditations for its service quality. The company is CHAS and Achilles accredited, Constructionline registered, and certified to manufacture 'Secured by Design' products.
