British Steel is looking to recruit 20 people to its UK-wide distribution network, which includes a base in Newport.

The new sales and warehouse roles have been created as the business looks to further expand the service its provides customers in the construction industry.

Two new sales roles will be based in Newport.

British Steel recently took on 21 new staff at sites in Newport, Wolverhampton, Brandon and Dartford.

Richard Farnsworth, British Steel’s managing director for construction, said: “Customer service is at the heart of everything we do and by expanding the teams at our metal centres and sales offices we will ensure we continue to satisfy the needs of our customers, both in terms of capacity and service.

“In the last few months we have recruited 21 new employees to build and improve British Steel’s distribution network – 11 in sales, six in warehouse roles and four HGV drivers.

“To be almost doubling that figure in the next 12 months is testament to the direction the business is moving in.”

British Steel employs more than 4,000 people in the UK, the majority of whom work at our two manufacturing sites in Scunthorpe and Teesside. Steel made and rolled at these two plants is used for a variety of applications, one of the main being sections for use in the construction industry.

While some of this steel goes into major infrastructure projects and buildings such as skyscrapers, it also supplies steel through its UK network of metal centres.

Richard said: “Our metal centres offer a quick and convenient way to buy smaller quantities of our steel product range.

“We have a wide range of products and the expansion of our distribution network is allowing us to become even more flexible and meet the fast turnaround times many of our customers need.”
