In a deal worth nearly £4.5m, Caldicot-based Pro Steel Engineering has been appointed by the Rugby Football Union to manage 850 tonnes of new steelwork at Twickenham.

The stadium’s revamp includes the extension of the East Stand to add 23,000 square metres on six levels for hospitality, conference events and food and beverage outlets.

Pro Steel’s role will involve designing connections, supplying and manufacturing, protective treatment, preparing the existing structure to receive the new frame, steel frame erection and installation of metal decking and hollow core slabs.

The programme of work starts in February and will continue until August 2017.

As the stadium remains active during these months for matches, Pro Steel will also be tasked with demobilising and remobilising for all eight events during the construction period.

At the recent Fast Growth 50 awards in Cardiff, Pro Steel was named the second fastest growing business in Wales 2016. After winning a number of major new contacts including Twickenham, director Richard Selby is now looking to recruit eight new permanent roles within the organisation.

Mr Selby said: “We’re thrilled to have won the Twickenham contract; it’s only February but already Pro Steel is competing again on a national scale. We are now looking for people to fill specialist roles within the organisation and ask that interested parties get in touch."
