Multi award-winning Newport chef Steve White, executive head of the city’s newest restaurant Sixteen, has been unveiled as part of the Newport Food Festival line up.

Steve, aged 41, most recently head chef at The Ruperra Arms, Bassaleg, Newport, is taking up residence at Newport’s newest restaurant, Sixteen on High Street, which is set to open at the end of September for a soft launch, with full launch in October.

Steve, who cooked for the Queen when he worked the Celtic Manor Resort, will give a chef’s demonstration at next month’s highly-regarded food festival.

Steve was recruited to his new role by entrepreneurial Newport-based restaurant business Niche Hospitality, which has Mojo The FoodBar and Riverside Bar and Kitchen in Clarence Place in its stable.

Steve started his career in cookery aged just 14 in Newport.

He said: “I can’t wait to welcome guests to the new restaurant, Sixteen and also to show what I can do at my chef’s demonstration as part of the fantastic Newport Food Festival 2017.”

Lewis Lewis and Seng Koh, joint owners of Niche Hospitality said: “We love the Newport Food Festival. We’re thrilled that Steve has the chance to showcase his awesome cheffing skills.”

Steve will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Newport Food Festival patron Hywel Jones of Michelin-starred Lucknam Park and James Sommerin, of Restaurant James Sommerin, which also holds a Michelin star, when he gives his chef’s demonstration in Newport Market.

The pastry master chef will also be involved in a pie perfection cook off as part of the day-long festival on Saturday, October 7.

During his time at the Celtic Manor, Steve gained a number of accolades including: Welsh Culinary Champion 1995, cooked for Her Royal Highness The Queen in 2002, Welsh international culinary champion 2006 and Good Food award winner 2015, 2016 and 2017.
