Henry Howard Finance employees, based at the firm’s Newport headquarters, recently swapped calculators for cake sales for one morning only to raise more than £600 ahead of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Staff at the independent finance house held a dress-down day, cake sale and raffle for the Macmillan Cancer Support event, raising £310. The amount was matched by Henry Howard Finance, with thanks to the executive chairman Howard Ross, bringing the total raised to £620.

The fundraising was organised by two senior Henry Howard Cashflow Finance staff who know first-hand the impact the disease can have on families, having personally supported relatives diagnosed with the disease. Erica Morse, a credit controller, and Nicola Binning, commercial manager, convinced more than 20 colleagues to donate baked goods for the cake sale, while others bought raffle tickets in the hope of winning a seven-tier Marks and Spencer’s rainbow cake.

“The work Macmillan nurses do is incredible, so it wasn’t difficult to convince the rest of our team to get involved,” said Ms Binning, from Langstone. “We had so much fun organising the event and seeing everyone get involved was fantastic. I just hope it has raised more awareness of the charity and inspired others to raise funds for it in the future.”

Howard Ross added: “As is the case for people across the UK, many of our team at Henry Howard Finance know someone whose life has been affected by cancer. For those fighting the disease, and their family and friends, the medical, emotional and practical support Macmillan nurses provide is invaluable. I am pleased, but not surprised, that staff across the business so generously donated their time, money and considerable appetites to such a worthy cause.”

Henry Howard Finance is an active supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support, having raised various amounts for the charity over the past five years. The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, takes place on 29 September 2017.
