Successful young Newport entrepreneur Jonathan Hill’s expanding coffee shop business has received assistance from Newport City Council.
Jonathan’s latest venture in the city, a coffee shop in Friars Walk bus station, received a grant from a business support scheme established by the council.
Established ventures have been able to apply for a grant if they are expanding and taking on new staff.
The Newport-born businessman opened his first Hi-Coffee outlet in Newport Railway Station in 2013 and now has three premises in the city and two in other locations.
Councillor Jane Mudd, Newport City Council’s cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said: “It is fantastic to see a young man from Newport not only achieve such great success but to continue investing in the city where he was brought up and educated.
“Jonathan’s hard work and enthusiasm has undoubtedly contributed to the growth of his business and I’m sure it will continue to flourish.”
Jonathan said: “It was important for me to base my business in the city and employ local people. Although I’m branching out to other places, the heart of Hi-Coffee will remain in Newport.
“I would like to thank Newport City Council for its backing which supported the opening of the café in Friars Walk bus station.”
