Gwent landlords are set to be given advice on legislation and tax at free event next week.

The next Gwent Landlord Forum takes place on Tuesday, March 27, at the Parkway Hotel in Llantarnam, Cwmbran.

The free event, sponsored by Cwmbran-based Rubin Lewis O’Brien and Green & Co Accountants and Tax Advisors, aims to educate landlords from across Newport and Gwent.

The speakers for this event will be Emma Cooke and Anne Garrett, from Torfaen Borough Council Planning, and Barrie Kenyon, from Green & Co.

The team from Torfaen Council will provide an overview on consumer protection legislation which affects landlords, ranging from potential unfair contract terms in tenancy agreements, and fees, to energy performance certificates and the new minimum energy rating regulations coming into force from April 2018.

Also, they will be giving an overview on housing legislation which governs the letting of properties in the Private Rented Sector including the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and Rent Smart Wales.

Mr Kenyon, who is a partner at Green & Co Accountants and Tax Advisors, will be giving top tips for landlords to minimise their tax in an ever-changing climate as HMRC moves towards a digitised framework for businesses and individuals.

Ed Gooderham, director of Green & Co Accountants and Tax Advisors, said: “We look forward to another informative forum. Our main aim is to provide local landlords with as much information and support as possible, and from the feedback we have received from our attendees we know that they really benefit from the events.”

Managing partner at Rubin Lewis O’Brien Sam George said: “With the ever-changing landscape of the buy-to-let market it is vital for landlords to be aware of all legislative changes. This event is a valuable, relaxing forum for all landlords and new attendees are always welcome”

The event will start at 6pm and is due to finish by 8.30pm. For more information, contact Rubin Lewis O’Brien or Green & Co. Alternatively, landlords and those with an interest in the buy-to-let market can follow @GwentLandlord on Twitter.
