EMPLOYEES of Gwent companies took part in mentally and physically demanding military challenges as they learned about the Territorial Army (TA) and its role in their community.

Soldiers from 104 Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers) hosted a TA employers challenge day on Saturday at Raglan Barracks, Newport.

Its aim was to increase awareness of the TA, with the event focusing on the people who employ TA soldiers rather than the soldiers themselves.

Representatives of Gwent companies were placed in teams of between six and eight people and had to navigate their way around nine stands within the barrackscompleting command tasks called Stepping Stones, Tyres, Bomb Disposal, Bridge Crossing and Bridge Over the River Taff.

The day was aimed at highlighting command, leadership and team skills that are gained from being a member of the TA. It was also being used to focus recruiting among companies for potential officers and soldiers for 104 Regiment and Army Cadet Force volunteers.

Soldiers from 104 Regiment regularly deploy to Afghanistan where they support operations by operating a mini unmanned air system.
