PM quizzed on new patent jobs for Newport

JOBS QUESTION: Newport West MP Paul Flynn JOBS QUESTION: Newport West MP Paul Flynn

NEWPORT West MP Paul Flynn quizzed prime minister David Cameron on how many new jobs would come to Newport off the back of a new European patent court, part of which will be based in the UK.

Mr Cameron told the commons that the court would bring hundreds of jobs to Britain with a a significant part – covering pharmaceutical and life science industries – based in London.

Mr Flynn asked how many of those jobs would be located in “the home of the brilliantly successful” Intellectual Property Office.

Mr Cameron said he did not know the answer to that question.

Mr Flynn told the Argus he will write to Mr Cameron over the issue.

So what's the big deal? No answers were there.

This would be excellent news for Newport - only if the Welsh Government starts to mature in the way it behaves and engages constructively.

If the Argus did not report what the MP is doing then we would be wondering come election time what he has done to deserve our vote & here is a story of him pushing for jobs to come to Newport & is following it up with a letter to Cameron. If the jobs are given to another area then you will know that your MP tried to bring them to Newport. Reports of what our Mp's get up to in the House of Commons are important.

Howie - That's what they are there for. Nothing special about Paul Flynn's compared with the hundreds of other questions he asksl

I'm with Howie and the Argus on this one. If some jobs do come to Newport, it'll be news, so why not hear a bit of the background while it's happening? I'll take the dry political stuff over reams of sleb gossip and the dross the Metro churns out, any day of the week.

You are kidding...I would hardly call asking a question in the House of Commons pushing for jobs?!? Is the Argus planning to report every question asked by a Gwent MP in the House???
