An enthusiastic team of fund-raisers from one of Wales’ leading recruitment businesses is to participate in the Three Peaks Challenge in a bid to raise cash for a cancer charity.

Smart Solutions, which has a base in Newport, has assembled a team of 25 staff members from across its network of seven service centres in Wales to scale three of Wales’ most impressive mountains – The Blorenge, The Sugar Loaf and The Skirrid, to raise money for Cancer Research UK on Saturday, July 21. As part of the challenge, which is likely to take around ten hours to complete, the team will cover a distance of 20 miles, including an ascent of 5,000ft, all with the aim of raising £5,000 to support research into cancer prevention treatment.

Training is already well underway with participants taking regular weekend walks in the Black Mountains to prepare themselves for the climb.

Vicky Fear, a recruitment consultant at Smart Solutions, has co-ordinated the challenge after staff took a vote to decide their preferred charity and fundraising activity. Other suggestions included a 12 hour football match and a charity gala ball.

The Three Peaks Challenge is an organised walk which was first organised 50 years ago and has helped raise money for diabetes, cancer, MS and mental health charities.

Nathan Bowles, chief executive of Smart Solutions, said: “Supporting both national and local charities is very important to us and it gives the staff across all of our sites the chance to work together for a good cause.

“It will be a big challenge for the team but I’m confident they will do well and hopefully raise a lot of money for Cancer Research.”
