I AM writing a book entitled "Coasters of South Wales" which will be a pictorial review of some of the small ships which have visited ports in South Wales during the last forty years.

There will be several photographs taken in the River Usk but I am having considerable difficulty in obtaining information about some of the wharves and I wonder if any of your readers will be able to help.

Specific information I need is:

1. Why was Great Western Wharf so called? Was there a link with the Great Western railway?

2. Why was Dallimore's Wharf so called? Was there a Mr Dallimore? If so, is there any information about him?

3. Were there two jetties at Blaina Wharf? When was this wharf closed?

I would be grateful for information which your readers can supply about these and any Usk wharves used during the last forty years.

I can be contacted by email at: bernard@coastalshipping.co.uk or by letter to: 400 Nore Road, Portishead, Bristol, BS20 8EZ.
