THE League representative team who are representing the Gwent County FA in the EUFA Regions Cup drew their final group fixture against West Wales 1-1 at Tredegar in an evenly fought contest.

The first half ended scoreless. West Wales took the lead on 63 minutes through Andrew Ferguson (South Gower). Gwent drew level after 72 minutes through Mark Millinship (Newport Civil Service). They now play the winners of the North Wales group on May 10. The winners will go forward to represent Wales in the next stage of the competition which is being played in Israel against Czech Republic and Malta.

In the First Division Chepstow Town, after their 5-1 away victory over Cefn Fforest, are within four points of leaders Newport Civil Service with a game in hand. Mark Dunn (2), Domonic Connor, Mathew Owen and Ashley Palmer the marksmen. Cwmffrwdoer Sports and Abertillery Bluebirds shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Lee Grimes, a penalty, and in the last minute Chris Williams were the goal scorers for Cwmffrwdoer, Paul Samuel and an own goal for the Bluebirds.

At the bottom, Panteg, Spencer Youth and BC, Mardy and Blaenavon Blues all picked up points. Panteg a very good 2-1 home win over Undy Athletic Club, Spencer Youth also at home 4-2 against Treowen Stars, Ben Wall, a hat trick, and Daniel Bailey with their goals.

Blaenavon Blues drew 1-1 at Clydach Wasps and Mardy by the odd goal of five when entertaining Abercarn United, Stephen Smith (2) and Rhys Whiteman the goal scorers. Neil Jones and Michael Priest scored the goals to give Coed Eva Athletic a 2-1 home victory over Albion Rovers.

In the Second Division, RTB Ebbw are making a late challenge for promotion. They had a 6-3 victory over Lucas Cwmbran at Eugene Cross Park to move into second place. Mathew Nicholls, a hat- trick, Nick Ward, Lee Hinch and Ashley Ford being the marksmen. Lliswerry won the Newport derby 3-0 against Malpas Gladiators at Westfields.

Tranch in third place came away from Hartridge School with a 3-1 victory over Cromwell, their goals being scored by Andrew Hayes (2) and John Aherne. Fairfield United took maximum points with a 3-1 home win over Rogerstone.

In Division Three it is only the title which has to be decided as the top two clubs, Sudbrook Cricket Club and Govilon, are both promoted. Govilon returned from neighbours Crickhowell with a 5-3 victory, the Cricket Club winning at Mill Lane 3-2 against Villa Dino Christchurch, Richard Lund (2) and Robert Thorn scoring the goals. Bottom club Crusaders defeated visitors Whiteheads 1-0. Underwood had a 2-1 home victory over AC Pontymister and in the local derby Pilcs and Race shared two goals.
