BLAENAVON'S Big Pit National Coal Museum is celebrating its 25th anniversary next month.
The award-winning museum has welcomed almost three million visitors since opening in 1983.
To mark the anniversary Big Pit is hosting a weekend of celebrations for the local community on April 5 and 6 between 11am and 4pm.
Activities include community displays, talks and tours and book launches and signings.
The final of the "Create Big Pit's Anniversary Cheese" competition will feature, held in partnership with the Blaenafon cheddar company and food writer and broadcaster Angela Gray.
Celebrations will also include an exhibition of photographs from yesteryear, performances by chorus members from the Welsh National Opera, and a free shuttle bus running over the weekend between Big Pit, the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway, the Blaenavon Ironworks and the newly opened World Heritage Site Visitor Centre.

My father Bob White, a Gwent County Councillor was instrumental , with others , in getting Big Pit off the ground. He would be very pleased now.
