TWO kittens were found dumped in a dustbin in Newport.
The animals, thought to be around six weeks old, were found in a large bin behind the Top of the Range pub, Pill, by Aaron Hood, 16.
He was walking home on Wednesday evening when he heard a noise coming from inside the bin, He opened it up and found two black kittens inside.
Aaron took the cats home to be cleaned and fed, and they are now with Gwent Cats Protection.
His mother, Jacqueline Hood, 46, said: "Nobody should treat an animal like that, it's just wrong.
"Some people are really spiteful and cruel."
It is not known how long the kittens had been left in the bin.
The kittens, one male and one female, are now improving.
One has suffered a damaged tail and might lose the end.
Mrs Hood said she is proud of her son for his actions, and said he wants to work with animals when he is older.
Glynis Davies, 49, coordinator for Gwent Cat Protection said it was lucky the kittens were found when they were as the bins were due for collection the next morning.
She said: "It's horrendous, it's just so callous, to put young kittens in a dustbin is just beyond belief."
Gwent Cat Protection is looking to re-home the kittens in around two weeks time.

Hope they are successful in rehoming the kittens.
Rather than dumping these poor creatures why don't they contact cat's protection. A phone call isn't much to ask.
I think cat's protection will also help out with the cost of neutering and spaying of cats for people on low incomes so there really is no excuse.
