Porters are pleased to offer this rare opportunity to purchase one of the original historical character cottages in The Square at the top of Newcastle Hill. Built in 1890, the terraced property was actually built using the ruins of the castle next door with stones dating back to 1106. Now, completely refurbished but still retaining many original features such as the hardwood front door, parque flooring and the open stone fireplace, the beautiful cottage offers the perfect setting for anyone looking for a home with character. Entering the property through the quaint front door there is a lounge with a wood burning fire. Beyond this is a beautiful fitted kitchen with a Belfast sink, wooden worktops and a stable door leading to the communal gardens to the rear. The bedroom has been opened up to give a mezzanine feel with French shutter style fitted wardrobes and a feature fireplace. There is a generous bathroom on the first floor with a panelled bath and thermostatic shower over. Communal gardens to the rear and on street parking to the front. The Square is a selection of just nine cottages that sit next to Newcastle Church & the Castle itself. Looking out onto an open green area, the property sits within a Conservation area of Bridgend. Just minutes walk to Bridgend Town Centre, the property is ideal for anyone looking to be close to local amenities and transport links.

Vendor Comment

We have loved restoring the cottage to it's former glory. During every stage of refurbishment, we have considered what updates need to be made (e.g. double glazing, new kitchen) and given them a classical twist (sash windows, Belfast sink, plate rack) so that it's history is upheld. We have optimised living space by opening up the bedroom, which has brought light to the stairs, given more wardrobe space and given a even larger bedroom. The square is a surprisingly peaceful setting to live within the heart of Bridgend.
