Sean Roper is a senior valuer with Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions

1 Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Sean Roper and I work at Paul Fosh Auctions as a senior valuer on mainly residential property.

2 How did you get into this line of work?

I started my career in property as a office junior in an estate agents and have also worked in corporate business/asset management which led me into the auction sector.

3 What sort of properties does your business usually sell?

Anything and everything. No auction is ever the same - in fact no day is! We sell everything from chapels to pubs, lordship of the manors and of course houses.

4 What’s in your car CD player at the moment?

The Smiths greatest hits

5 What motivates you?

Nothing motivates me more than being appreciated and seeing people happy with my service and ultimately the result.

6. And what irritates you?

Wet winters. I love summer and being out in the big wide world

7 What do you think the property scene in the area is like at the moment and how would you change it if you could?

I’d speed up the whole buying process. So many sales fall through basically because things have dragged on so long.

8 Last film you saw and what did you think?

Fury with Brad Pitt - great war film with amazing storyline and very gritty. Plus it kept my wife happy watching Brad.

9 If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?

I'd be travelling the world seeing as many different cultures and places as possible. If we are talking about work then marketing is something that has always interested me.

10 Who is your hero?

I have a few. Kenny Daglish when I was a child big Liverpool fan. Nigel Benn the boxer - I love boxing too. And my son Declan, my greatest achievement.

11 What one tip would you give someone trying to sell their property

Imagine you are seeing it for the first time. Walk through the door and see what would impress you and what would put you off .

12 And what one tip would you give someone looking to buy in the area?

Speak to the local agents on a regular basis, make sure you get onto the top of the list when they call with new listings.

13 If you could sell any property in the world to anyone, what property would it be and who would it be to?

I sell a wonderful villa overlooking Lake Garda, Italy, to myself

14 Three words which sum up why buying in this area is a great idea…

Newport is certainly a city on the up with all the new investment and regeneration and compared to Cardiff prices remain at a competitive level for both home owners and investors.
