Taking its name from the river that runs through it, Usk is an idyllic little town with a rich history in Monmouthshire.

The town boasts a Norman castle, Roman ruins, and charming 17th century buildings are situated throughout its narrow streets.

Usk has an enviable reputation for its floral displays, salmon fishing, and friendly and welcoming people who have a great sense of community.

All of which adds up to making it a highly-sought after place to live.

The town itself is full of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants, all with unique flair and enchanting personality.

If you haven’t visited before, you’re missing out – it’s like stepping back in time with the added luxuries of modern life.

Schools

Usk Nursery and Usk CV Primary can be found in the town, with the majority of children heading out to either Ysgol Gyfun Gwynllyw in Pontypool or Caerleon Comprehensive to further their education. On the outskirts of town there’s the Usk Campus for Coleg Gwent offering a wide range of subjects – known previously as an agricultural college, thisis not only an excellent centre for land-based courses, but also sport, outdoor activity and independent living skills courses.

Events and leisure

On the second Saturday in September, every year since 1844, Usk Farmers’ Club has held the Usk Show to celebrate the very best of Monmouthshire farming and rural life. Now one of the biggest one-day agricultural shows in the UK, its popularity is second-to-none.

Usk Farmer’s Market takes place between 10am and 1pm on the first and third Saturday each month at Usk Memorial Hall, Maryport Street, where you be sure to find a whole host of fresh produce from local suppliers, as well as many other items too.

Usk is also popular place to get married, with The Glen-Yr-Afon Hotel, Sessions House and The Three Salmons Hotel being great choices to hold your special day, not to mention the great scenic views and natural beauty hotspots for wedding photography – a great location for any budding entrepreneur to maybe open up a wedding business.
