LURA is the soulful new voice of Cape Verde music from west Africa and makes her first appearance at Cardiff at St David's Hall in May as part of her current UK tour.

With her electric stage presence and astounding voice, Lura first grabbed the attention of critics and audiences alike with her 2005 UK debut tour, leading to sell-out shows and a string of world music award nominations.

She is now back in the country, following the release of her new album, M'bem di fora (I've Come From Far Away).

Lura's unique sound is rooted in the diverse styles of Cape Verde, a dusty archipelago off the coast of west Africa.

Like Cuba these islands are a cultural meeting place blending African and European musical influences.

Her songs capture the sensual rhythms of these islands, blending soul, jazz and ballads into a provocative and dynamic performance.
