Dexter by Design, by Jeff Lindsay - (Orion Fiction, £6.99)
FANS of Dexter, the "good" killer, both in his novel and television life, will no doubt lap up this latest offering, now also starring in a popular television series.
Sadly, although written with a deft touch, he's just not my cup of blood. He's a bit too knowing and I'm never fond of anyone who refers to themselves, for whatever reason, in the third person.
Now happily married but unable to give up his old life, he soon finds a perfect reason to resume his deadly hobby. Unfortunately, it appears his instincts might be slightly awry this time.
This does not stop him preparing to mentor his two stepchildren, instead of seeking the help they obviously need.
Lindsay also sets up another intriguing premise for the future in the last pages of this tragi-comic novel.
