THE Foresters Oaks, Llandevaud, has been taken over and transformed into one of the best spots around for traditional meals at exceptional value.
Formerly Leadons Brasserie, the inn is now unrecognisable from the formal and stuffy former life and has been given a facelift that combines the rustic stone wall features with the modern day contemporary décor.
Their new menu is a mixture of the standard stapes of a country restaurant with options for the more adventurous.
I sampled their earlybird menu – a starter, main course and glass of house wine for 14.99 and was pleasantly surprised.
I had the breaded garlic mushrooms with garlic bread and garlic mayonnaise dip to start, followed by 8oz prime rump steak with roasted cherry tomatoes and grilled portobello mushroom. My starter was delicious, but was completely overshadowed by the superb steak that followed.
My partner had the filo wrapped bree with beetroot and orange chutney to start and pan-fried chicken supreme with thai laksa, coconut, ginger and chilli sauce – a perfect chicken dish.
For desert we squeezed in a crème brulée between us to finish off a superb meal.
With the earlybird offer (between 6pm and 7pm), drinks and desert, the meal came to 41.05.
Normal menu prices range from £3.95 starters and £7.95 and above of mains.
Cannot recommend enough.
