Taking Flights brilliant promenade performance was a funny and energetic piece of inclusive theatre that kept the audience engaged throughout. The 10 strong cast members worked fantastically together, and made the sometimes challenging text easy to understand and wonderfully entertaining. The production was a colourful and playful rendition of Shakespeare tragedy, with a strong 60’s costume design by Becky Davis. Samuel Bees, playing Romeo, and Anja Conti, playing Juliet, worked beautifully together and brought wit and strength to the usually powerless characters. Nikki Warwick made the male Mercutio into a strong female with wonderful conviction and the interplay between her, Romeo and Benvolio, played by Thomas House, was a joy to watch!
Taking Flight aim to work with people who have traditionally been under-represented in traditional theatre and they also aim to make theatre accessible to all, as displayed with their BSL interpreter, Abigail Hiester. Abigail did a wonderful job being both a part of the action and separate..
I’ve never seen a cast enjoy their work as much as in this show, and the Amphitheatre provided a beautiful backdrop to the production. The strength of the cast shone through - this is definitely a must see!
