Britain is a nation of holiday lovers according to a recent survey conducted by the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, which has unveiled 57 per cent of families go on five or more camping and caravanning holidays a year.

The results reinforce the growing British preference to a holiday at home as trips in Great Britain rose by seven per cent to 105 million last year, with favourite UK destinations including Cornwall (11 per cent), Scotland (11 per cent), Devon (10 per cent) and the Lake District (seven per cent).

The survey was conducted with members of The Camping and Caravanning Club.

The survey also reveals that 55 per cent of respondents love the freedom which comes with camping and caravanning, with favourite pursuits during these holidays including walking (51 per cent) and visiting the beach (11 per cent), as well as other activities such as cycling, reading, fishing, visiting museums, drinking wine and photography.

However, campers and caravanners don’t want to go back to nature completely: 62 per cent said that hot showers are the most important facility on a campsite. And there’s no compromise with food either, as 48 per cent cook their favourite food at the campsite with top choices being, BBQs, full English breakfasts, pasta dishes and steak.
