Las Vegas is one of the world's unique holiday destinations - built around the Las Vegas strip it's a world apart from any holiday destination I've visited in my lifetime.

Having decided upon a week long stay in Vegas my partner and I couldn't wait for our trip away, without the children and to the fun capital of the world.

We decided to stay in the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino, after researching the array of the hotels on the strip and were excited to experience the lavish facilities available to us.

I have to admit flying into Vegas and seeing the view of the strip from the plane made me desperate to get there and start exploring.

I'd never seen a hotel reception like the one at the Monte Carlo. It was beautiful, with stunning crystal chandeliers and ornate marble floors and it quickly became apparent we'd made the right choice.

Our room was on the 12th floor and had stunning views of the south end of the strip. The room was stylish and certainly didn't disappoint. It came complete with pillow top mattresses, fine linen, a flat screen tv, docking station and more. And the bathroom was beautifully designed in Italian marble - the hotel was fabulous.

The pool facilities included a splash wave pool with it's party atmosphere, a lazy river, lagoon pool and stunning cabanas available to book during our stay.

The team at the pool looked after everything, you really didn't need to move all day, with a full food and drinks menu, everything we needed was at hand. We booked a cabana for the day, timed perfectly for a mid-holiday chill out day.

The variety of restaurants, bars, shopping, and over all look and feel of the resort was perfect for us - the facilities far exceeded our expectations.

Once we got our bearings we decided to head to the casino on the first evening. I was excited, if a little nervous, but we had great fun. Our casino host, Frank, was superb. He explained the rules of roulette and the betting table - we had a ball.

Las Vegas Strip was fascinating - from walking across the Golden Gate Bridge at New York New York, experiencing the magical water displays at the Bellagio, watching the volcano eruption at the mirage and a beautiful trip to the top of las Vegas' very own Eiffel Tower, I found myself amazed at every step.

We'd made a deal before we arrived that we had to experience as many of the resort's restaurants as possible, including the ice cream parlour on the boulevard at the Monte Carlo - a perfect treat on a hot Las Vegas summer's day.

Try as we might, we didn't manage to try all the restaurants, but did experience the fabulous Yusho, where the team helped us with a selection of signature dishes including spicy tuna with Taro and pine nuts, shrimp ramen in a lobster broth. It was voted best new strip restaurant 2014 by Las Vegas Weekly.

We also enjoyed The Double Barrel Road House sampling the aptly-named double barrel burger, the restaurant's very own take on the American classic and The Pub, another of the restaurants, where we tucked in to rib eye steak and salmon - delicious.

Our days (and nights) centred around the Las Vegas strip and the amazing sights at each of the hotels there. I'd never experienced anything like it - hotels with their own shopping malls, hotel lobbies with floor-to-ceiling fish tanks, hotel arenas with the capacity to host thousands of excited guests, and show upon show to choose from.

We decided on the turbo-charged Blue Man Group's newest show in The Monte Carlo with electrifying music, sensational technology, and innovative new ways of interacting with the audience, to the hottest musical acts and poolside DJs, we followed the show from the nightly hotel lobby music performance to experience all of the action. It was a show unique in its style and mesmerising front start to finish.

We really were ready by day four of our holiday to spend the day in the cabana we had hired. It offered a perfect poolside location, surrounding the lazy river and the wave pool. It included a private cabana which could have accommodated up to 10 guests, a food and drink service, chaise lounges, sofa, chairs, in-house telephone, safe and tubes for the lazy river - it was a real treat, a well deserved mid-holiday R&R day!

Having walked the length of the strip during our stay, I treated myself to a signature spa at the neighbouring Aria Spa Resort. It was stunning, with affinity pools, plunge pools, relaxation rooms and so much more. I couldn't have left there any more relaxed and keen to see a few more of the sights before we had to leave for home.

We took a bus to Freemont Street along a route lined with little white wedding chapels but we didn't stop and tie the knot!

The Freemont Experience sure was that - an experience all of its very own. It included a crazy zip wire which runs the length of the experience which the more adventurous looked like they were really enjoying.

Our last day in Vegas was spent by the pool, before a last minute refuel at the Nine Fine Irishmen Bar at New York New York. We tried the traditional Irish breakfast to fuel our journey home.

I'm a firm believer that there are so many amazing places in the world to visit you really don't need to visit the same place twice. However, I can honestly say our Las Vegas trip has changed that opinion. We can't wait to go back to experience it all again.
