A new survey suggests that the Welsh are more likely to holiday in Wales than anywhere else in the UK.

The research, carried out by Back-Roads Touring revealed that 90 per cent of the Welsh holiday in Wales.

The beautiful countryside appears to play a huge part in that decision with more than 60 per cent citing nature and scenery to be the biggest draw for a staycation.

It’s not only the striking Welsh landscape that appeals either, 45 per cent of those surveyed agreed that they loved the striking beaches and coastlines of the UK.

The research also delved into the travel habits of the UK’s other regions, finding that they also have very particular motivations when it comes to deciding where to spend their holidays.

Londoners most likely to travel than from elsewhere in the UK. The historical and cultural landmarks they visit are likely to be far-flung attraction, with the Inca Trail, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat and Saint Basil’s Cathedral in Moscow coming out top. Londoners are also least likely to take a UK break, with visiting less UK counties than any other residents in the country.

Scots came out as a nation of foodies, agreeing that being able to experience locally sourced food and regional dishes is very important to them when choosing a holiday destination within the UK. Those from the Midlands are most interested in visiting British beaches and coastlines and those from the South East enjoy visiting cultural and historical UK sights.
