THE first thing that strikes you when you walk in the New Lahore is its lovely, contemporary decor which immediately creates a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere.

We were greeted warmly by the owner, who was at the time serving another customer who had frequented the restaurant for 30 years.

People from Peterborough, London and Birmingham all make the commute to Newport to savour the dishes.

One regular even brings a saucepan to fill with curry to take home.

Staff ensure every customer has an enjoyable experience with each dish explained to you, if you want.

All staff are extremly attentive, ensuring that every whim is catered for.

I asked the owner to choose a meal for me, and was not disappointed.

We had the chicken Thetul Masala (chicken, mushroom, garlic mildly spiced in butter with a touch of tamarind) Tandoori Jinga (king prawns marinated and cooked in a tandoori clay oven, served with a green salad).
