ENTER our competition to win two premier tickets to this year’s Coral Welsh Grand National at Chepstow, the richest and most prestigious horse race in Wales.

In terms of live sport, it is difficult to match the drama and excitement of a day at the races and the annual highlight at the Monmouthshire course always provides a great spectacle as twenty runners jump twenty-two fences over three miles and five furlongs.

Invariably the ground is soft, so the winning horse needs stamina in abundance.

This year’s total prize money has been increased from £120,000 to £150,000 which means it is the richest ever Coral Welsh Grand National. The winning owner receives £85,000 and there is prize money down to sixth place.

As a result of the high prize money, 102 horses have entered the race on Tuesday, December 27, which over the next month will be reduced down to the twenty horses to face the starter.

This year Mountainous, an eleven year old gelding trained on the Herefordshire/Shropshire border by Kerry Lee, will bid to win the race at Chepstow for a record third time. He was successful in 2013 and 2015.

This year the Welsh National Anthem will be sung by international opera stars Bryn Terfel and Rebecca Evans and the Bridgend Male Voice Choir will be singing in the Parade Ring before racing.

A premier ticket get you right in the heart of the racing action. The premier enclosure offers superb viewing from the Premier grandstand and gives full access to all public areas excluding hospitality and owners and trainers.
