AHEAD of the holidays, we have put together a list of some Easter events across Gwent. From magic shows in a castle to the traditional egg hunt, there are events catering for everyone.

NEWPORT

The event will host a range of activities, including a raffle, a bake-off and Easter-themed crafts.

Families are invited to an Easter egg hunt in Caerleon, with prizes on offer for children who collect the most eggs.

Prizes will be given for the child who collects the most eggs in three different age groups, ranging from age two to 11.

Friars Walk will have an Easter event programme which includes family fun, entertainment, craft workshops, balloon modelling and much more.

WHERE: Shaftesbury Community Centre, Evans Street

TIME: 2pm to 6.30pm

ENTRY: £1.50 per event or £2 for the both.

Families are invited to an Easter egg hunt and disco at the community centre.

The hunt will take place in Shaftesbury field and the disco will be in Shaftesbury Community Centre.

ENTRY: £3 per child under 16 and £5 for a family ticket with two children, free for adults

Newport Live sports development team are holding their annual sport EGGStravaganza event.

Activities on the day will include an Easter egg hunt, arts and crafts, facepainting and lots of sports, such as basketball, athletics and rowing.

The children’s Easter party will include games and a disco as well as food – a sausage or chicken nuggets and chips.

Throughout the holidays, they have got a basket full of goodies to get the whole family in the mood for Easter.

There'll be '50 things' activities and spotter trails as well as their special Cadbury's Easter Egg Trail between April 14 and 17 (£2 per trail).

WHERE: National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon

WHEN: April 14 to April 17

TIME: 11am - 4pm (Friday, Saturday, Monday) 2-4pm Sunday

ENTRY: Free

Get crafty by making a traditional Roman decoration for a tree, an ‘oscilla’. Participants will decorate it with a sheep.

Oscilla were normally clay figures or masks that were hung in the trees at some country festivals.

An ‘Easter Duck’ trail will be in place at Caerleon Roman Baths during the bank holiday weekend. Visitors will be challenged to ‘hook’ a series of ducks across the site to win a duck balloon and Easter treat to take home. Plus, visitors will have the chance to decorate their own Roman masks.

TORFAEN

WHERE: Busy Bees, Park Street, Blaenavon

ENTRY: Free

Churches Working Together in Blaenavon are organising an ecumenical “Messy Church” event with an Easter theme. This event is a suitable for the whole family and will include lunch. For more information or to book please call 07824 430863.

WHERE: Pontypool and Blaenavon railway

WHEN: Easter Weekend (April 14 to 17)

TIME: Different times

Blaenavon Heritage Railway is set in the heart of a World Heritage Site on the edge of the Brecon Beacons and has approximately three and a half miles of track.

You can travel from their main station at Furnace Sidings to the Big Pit National Mining Museum for an underground tour.

Their second journey takes you to Coed Avon and Blaenavon (High Level) where you can alight to explore the Heritage Town and Ironworks.

This event includes a chocolate treat for the children.

WHERE: All Creatures Great and Small, Church Farm, Cwmbran

WHEN: Bank Holiday Monday, April 17

TIME: Noon to 4pm

ENTRY: Entry into the sanctuary is free but it is £3 to enter the Easter Egg Hunt

The Easter Egg hunt is back again after a success last year.

The tea room will be open selling home baked cakes and jams. They will also have a pet stall, raffle and a children’s activities corner.

There is a treat at the end of the Easter Egg hunt.

WHERE: Blaenavon World Heritage Centre, Church Road

WHEN: April 11 to 14 and April 18 to 21

TIME: 11am to 4pm

ENTRY: £1 per craft activity

There will be activities to keep the family occupied this Easter.

From April 11 to 14 and from April 18 to 21, there will workshops. Also, from Thursday, April 13, to Thursday, April 20, story and crafts will be held in the library at 2.30pm.

There will be an Easter Egg Hunt every day.

Visitors are invited to bring their own Teddy Bear’s picnic and enjoy an afternoon of storytelling in Stack Square.

Plus, children can participate in the site’s Easter Egg trail, with an Easter prize for the first 200 children to complete it.

MONMOUTHSHIRE

WHERE: Across Monmouthshire leisure centres

WHEN: Monday, April 10 to Friday, April 21, weekdays, excluding bank holidays

ENTRY: 9am - 3pm, £16 per day.

Early start 8am - late finish 5pm - £19.50 per day.

The Monmouthshire Games 2017 will take place during the Easter holidays and will be based on learning new skills, developing confidence, meeting new people and having fun through sport.

Each day will be a full day, packed with a range of sporting activities that children and young people (aged 5 - 12) can engage with.

There will be more than 30 different sports including swimming, kayaking dodgeball, tennis and more.

A new club will run at Chepstow Racecourse during the school holidays.

Mojo Active will be based at the racecourse and will accommodate children aged seven and above.

Bookings for the Easter Holiday Club are now open and parents can select the standard day from 9am to 4pm or a longer day from 8am to 6pm.

WHERE: Caldicot Castle

They will be celebrating both the reopening of the castle for the new season, and officially cutting the ribbon on the gates of their new children's play park.

Activities such as inflatable football, climbing towers, archery, Easter egg hunt across the park, arts and crafts and even the chance to abseil down one of the castle towers will be available for everyone.

CAERPHILLY

The Ester Medieval Weekend at Caerphilly Castle is popular with people of all ages, with activities spanning from have-a-go archery and medieval games to knightly combat displays and weapon demonstrations.

As part of the Year of Legends, Caerphilly Castle will host the ‘feztival’ of magic and comedy, in celebration of one of the town’s great legends – Tommy Cooper.

Visitors will enjoy street magic and see some of Tommy’s best tricks before their eyes.
